Everything has its opposite—although this is never absolute, only comparative. No one thing is completely yin or completely yang. Each contains the seed of its opposite, and so it is with my art.

I find painting a process of illumination - a process of revealing this duality within us. This is expressed metaphorically within my work through the way I use colour in combination with form and value.

For example, temperature can be expressed as either hot or cold. It can be further divided into warm or burning; cold into cool or icy. I use colour saturation and intensity as way of expressing degree of emotion as well as tension. Form helps me to frame the work and bring the viewer into the piece. I prefer to accentuate wonder and the possibility of light rather than wallow in angst and darkness.
